Zim 22 Update #1
23July

We are thanking the Lord for safe arrival for the entire team. We met Erisa in Dubai and are happy to have her join the team in person. Our travel was not entirely without incident—some unexpected COVID tests at LAX and heightened screening by Zimbabwe immigration, especially concerning the many supplies we were bringing into the country. But the Lord saw us through, all supplies made it!

Today we will be participating in a regional church conference at Eastside church where we will be presenting on the topics of Special Needs Ministry and Effective Communication: Striving Towards Colossians 4:6. It will be a full day of attending and presenting at the conference are excited to worship and study alongside our brothers and sisters here in the Ruwa region.

Zim 22 Update 2
23 July

The word for today was “worship.” We had a wonderful time worshipping with our brothers and sisters from Eastside church and Solomio church at the ADMT regional conference today.

Today Debbie, Jeannette, Shania and Brenda presented to the congregations on special needs ministry. Steve presented to the men on communication in the home and Debbie, Elizabeth, Shania and Kasey led a VBS for the children. Amanda, Erisa and Brenda spoke to the older teens on identity and self worth. The day ended with a sermon from a local pastor and more worship. It was a packed day!

Tomorrow the team will be participating in the service at Eastside.

July 24 | Team Update from Elizabeth Harshbarger

Jul 24, 2022 10:50 AM

Hey! Elizabeth here! Today was another great day in Zimbabwe. We had the second day of the church conference, where Lance led us in offering, Brenda shared her testimony, and Steve preached. The service was beautiful, and I personally enjoyed worship so much. Debbie, Jeannette, Shania, and myself did the kids ministry, while Erisa, Kasey, and Brenda led the youth. And Lance did a wonderful job taking photos of all of the groups. Later in the day we had the opportunity to go to a local market where we could buy handmade souvenirs and gifts. After shopping we got some ice cream to end a great day! God is doing a great work in and through this team, and I am looking forward to seeing what He will do next!

July 26 | Team Update from Brenda Estrada

Jul 26, 2022 11:25 AM

Hola!
It is Brenda Estrada here! I would describe these last couple of days as BREATHTAKING! Things were done a little different for this trip and had our tourist adventures early on. We were able to fly into Victoria falls to experience one of the world’s largest waterfalls, had the opportunity to visit some wild animals at the Zambezi National park, and had a sunrise cruise on the Zambezi River! The team has been able to bond soo well and we are feeling soo blessed to be on this trip together. Tomorrow we are heading out early to continue our mission work at the village of Chipinge. We trust that God is with us and will fulfill his will through us as his faithful vessels on earth.

Change of Location!

The team has arrived in Chipinge and continuing on their VBS activities!

Team Update from Erisa!

Jul 28, 2022 11:20 AM

We started our day with our morning routine, getting breakfast and daily devotional.

After that, we had our meeting with the teachers and the head of school - just before the team started their activities in school.

One of the local traditions that foreigners have to be aware of before they step into the community is that to respect the local authority. In this case as the team was going to teach kids in school, the head school and teachers of Manyezu village would like to say few words to officially welcome the team.

The school activities began at 8am and ended around 9.45am. The activities involved:

1. Reading bible stories
2. Crafts - making bookmarks
3. Games - red light and green light

And the kids were grouped into 4 groups based on their grade:
Grade 1 - by Debbie and Elizabeth
Grade 2 - with Amanda and Lance
Grade 3 & 4 - with Brenda, Erisa, Shania
Grade 5, 6, 7 - with Kasey and Steve

After school activities, the team were briefed to get ready for some painting works. There’s 2 houses that needed to be painted - they both are houses for teacher’s accommodation. The team was able to finish paintings in 2hrs and had a bit of free time just before lunch.

After lunch, the team was getting ready for the home visit. Again, just before the team started to do the home visit, there was a courtesy briefing session with the village leaders.

The team was split into two groups for the home village assignment:
Group 1 - Debbie, Erisa, Kasey, Shania
Group 2 - Brenda, Amanda, Lance, Steve

Each group visited 3 houses and in each house the group would share their testimony/bible verses, worship and pray.

The home visit activities took around 2.5hrs in total.
As we finished with the home visit, the group walked back to Manyezu school where we based and met Jeanette. Jeanette was arriving in Manyezu village, Chipinge from Harare this afternoon around 4pm. By God’s goodness Jeanette was finally able to join the group today after the previous two nights she was not feeling well.

The session after home visit were:
1. taking rest for the rest afternoon
3. getting ready for dinner,
4. Dinner
5. Testimony, team evaluation and shoutout - after dinner

Team Update from Amanda Cross

Jul 29, 2022 09:46 PM

We started our day with the usual routine of breakfast @ 8am, briefing for the day and a team devotional with ONE&ALL and ADMT.

We then met all the children for VBS and split up into the classrooms, according to the ages. We had the same groups as yesterday.

Todays lesson was titled ‘God’s love is immeasurable.’ After the lesson we gave measuring tapes to the kids so they could measure different items in the room, which they seem to enjoy doing! We also
made beaded bracelets and necklaces with the children then went outside to play games. We first started by playing with beach balls, trying to keep them up in the air and not hit the ground. We also played red light, green light with the kids paired up with two ankles tied together to give them an extra challenge. They seemed to love it!

After VBS, we finished painting the homes for the two teachers and also completed one coat of paint on the classroom block. We are ahead of schedule on the painting projects!

We had some downtime after the painting projects, then we had lunch at 1pm. We are mixing and mingling with the Zimbabweans at meal times to build relationships and learn about each other! It is so interesting to talk with them and learn more about the Zimbabwean culture!

After lunch we split into our two groups to go on house visits. Debbie’s group visited 3 homes and Steve’s group visited 5 homes. They were all great visits and good times of prayer with the families. At one of the homes Steve’s group visited, they were greeted with African music, so the group had a time of dancing with the family and residents who lived there!

After the beautiful hike back to the school, we had another short break before dinner.

After dinner we had a time of sharing and debriefing about the day. We shared about anything that stuck out at us that day or impacted us. Pastor Norman and the other Zimbabweans who were present made mention of how they appreciate our team working together and that they enjoy our mixing and mingling at meal times so they can have the opportunity to get to know us! Overall, it was another great day!!

Team Update from Lance Leong

Jul 30, 2022 12:25 PM

Manheru! (Good Evening in Shona) Lance here. This morning was dedicated to providing leadership seminars to the Chipinge area. There were some people who had traveled as long as 4 hours by foot to make it on time for our first presentation at 9am. I’m never going to complain about my morning commute again. Debbie started things off with a lesson on “Service”, which quite frankly summed up the day. Kasey then followed with her lesson on “Administration” helping the community strategize and organize more efficiently. We then ended the seminar with the Special Needs presentation from Debbie, Jeanette, Brenda, and Shania helping to bring awareness in the community who might have disabilities and how to better care for them. All of this done before lunch break. I should also mention that before each presentation, we broke out into worship. And let me tell you something, It’s another level of worship here in Africa. It feels like a party every time. We utilized the rest of the afternoon working side-by-side with the locals continuing the renovation project efforts for the local teacher’s homes. Big shout-out to Brenda who loved on some of the local children by tending to some of their wounds she had noticed in passing. During our dinner time evaluation of the day, Jeanette shared her testimony and a beautiful moment occurred. As she was sharing and got to a point in her story where emotions were taking over, the locals broke out into a beautiful song to console her and give her time to collect herself. It's almost if everyone in the room gave her one big collective hug. Tomorrow, we’ll be participating at the Sunday service here at Manyezu Primary School in Chipinge. Thank you all for your prayers.

Team Update from Jeannette Martinez

Jul 31, 2022 11:50 AM

Jesu Akanaka! (Jesus is good!) Today was the Lord’s day.

We started our day with a devotional led by Steve and enjoyed breakfast as a team.

We attended the church service. Worship was encouraging. We all sang and danced together to worship the same God. We had communion led by Amanda. Elizabeth did a call for offering and shared a message. Then, Erisa shared her testimony.

The team split up into 2 groups. Debbie, Shania, Elizabeth, Steve and Jeannette led the children’s church. The children learned about the the Easter story, sang some songs and got to do a fun craft. Amanda, Brenda, Erisa stayed in the church to listen to Lance share the message. Lance preached about hope.

After church, we had a quick lunch before we took a trip.

We drove for about 1.5 hours to the site where a clinic will be built for the local people. ADMT is partnering with the community to fulfill a great need. Currently, the villagers have to travel 15 km to seek medical attention. We had the opportunity to meet the village heads, chair person of the clinic and local elders who will be in charge of the building and running of the clinic. We prayed over the land and the construction of the clinic.

Upon our return we enjoyed a delicious dinner and debriefed about the day. Brenda shared her testimony with the team.

We thank the Lord for a great day and thank you all for your prayers over us.

Team Update from Shania Ilagan!

Aug 1, 2022 04:32 PM

Hey friends! Shania here. Today was our last day in the village! We started our day by eating breakfast as a team along with hearing a devotional by Debbie. After breakfast we all headed to our classrooms for our last day of VBS. We taught the kids about God’s commandment to love one another. And further discussed what it will like practicing this lesson in their daily lives. After VBS we enjoyed a quick lunch and headed out to finish up our painting projects. We did the last final touch ups on the homes we have been painting the last few days. We are super excited for the teachers to enjoy their newly painted homes. Right after our painting project the village put on an amazing closing ceremony for us. The kids put on a great dance performance for us during the closing ceremony. During the ceremony we also presented the supplies donated to the school and the church. We spent some time in prayer and worship as well. We also enjoyed some time playing games as a team before heading out to home visits. During our home visit today Kasey was able to give the family we were visiting a brand new soccer ball which meant a lot to them. We then ate dinner as a team and discussed how the day went. After we did a team debrief and discussed how God had moved through us and everyone we served. Thank you everyone for following us along during this journey! Please be praying for the teams’ health and safety as we prepare to travel home these next few days.
