Hello family and friends,
Today we wrapped up day 5 and completed our first day of VBS and youth camp with the “watoto” and “vijana” (kids and youth). It was incredible. Similar to the VBS and youth camps back at home, the Lord’s presence was magnified and the Holy Spirit completely filled the space. Our O&A and CCP members teamed up and split into two teams on two different sites - Team Gatina and Team kinyanjui . Being that it was day 1 of VBS and 8 AM, there were not many kids present when the event started. This did not stop the CCP members from extending the invite. We set out to the neighborhoods to welcome more kids and it worked! Both sites had hundreds of students attend today. We both participated in worship, dancing, skits, crafts, Bible lessons, games and more! It was an absolute blast. You can see the pure joy on the sweet students' faces. All they want to do is hold your hand, hug you, play with your hair, and sit on you if they can. The time spent out here with these students is a true blessing from God. Not only the students, but the staff too. The CCP members already feel like family. Once VBS concluded, both teams joined back together for a quick debrief over a delicious meal. Shortly after, the youth camp started where we welcomed students from ages 12 to their early twenties. We began with worship, which is much different than the states. They include lots of dancing and I absolutely loved it. Following worship my “lil sis” Hallie boldly shared her testimony and crushed it. Then James brought a good Word that focused on our identity being in Christ and not of the things of this world. It was special to hear him preach being that he was my former Bible Club advisor and high school math teacher. Neither one of us had any clue we would be on this mission trip together. So neat how God works! After hearing the Word, we broke into small groups with the students and leaders and went over questions focusing on trusting God. I got the “grade 9” students and I loved them!! I am so happy I get to spend the rest of my week pouring into them and being filled by them as well. Before we concluded for the day, I met a student (Veronica) who wants to pursue a career as an interpreter. She is fluent in Kenyan Sign Language and we spent some time teaching each other the different signs between American Sign Language and Kenyan Sign Language. They are mostly similar with few differences. It was such a special moment to sign with her and encourage her in pursuing a career that will support the Kenyan deaf community. Today was simply magical and I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for the rest of the week!! Thank you, Jesus!!
Prayer Request: Please pray over day 2 of VBS/youth camp! Pray that everything continues to go as planned, that more students attend, and that students experience Jesus in a way they have never experienced His love before. Thank you, love you all!
