God Behind the Scenes

Esther: is part of the Megilloth (scroll: “long or drawn out.”)
The Five Scrolls:
1. Ruth
2. Song of Solomon
3. Lamentations
4. Ecclesiastes
5. Esther

At the Feast of Purim, The Scroll of Esther is read aloud to remind the people of God that He keeps His promises even when it looks like the end is near.

Now there was a Jew in Susa the citadel whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, son of Shimei, son of Kish, a Benjaminite

-Esther 2:5 ESV

Mordecai and Esther were of the lineage of King Saul.

In 1 Samuel 15, God commanded King Saul to execute judgment on the Amalekites.

Remember what Amalek did to you on the way when you came out of Egypt, how he confronted you on the way and attacked among you all the stragglers at your rear when you were tired and weary; and he did not fear God. So it shall come about, when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your surrounding enemies in the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, that you shall wipe out the mention of the name Amalek from under heaven; you must not forget.

-Deuteronomy 25:17-19 NASB

And Samuel said, ‘Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, He has also rejected you from being king.’

-1 Samuel 15:22-23 ESV

A descendant of King Agag rose to a royal position in a Persian kingdom. His name was Haman.

First: Sin must be confronted.

Second: Disobedience really does matter.

I will give you hidden treasures, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the Lord…

-Isaiah 45:3A

I am the Lord, and there is no other; apart from me there is no God. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, so that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form the light and create darkness, I bring prosperity and create disaster; I, the Lord, do all these things. 'You heavens above, rain down my righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness flourish with it; I, the Lord, have created it.'

-Isaiah 45:5-8

Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself, the God and Savior of Israel.

-Isaiah 45:15

Esther means hidden.

The two names of Israel’s adversaries have deep meaning.

Amalek: Always associated with doubt that God is involved.

Haman: Always associated with doubting the word of God.

Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?

-Genesis 3:11B KJV

The overarching message of Esther: God is always working underneath everything!

“The Lamb who was slain before the foundations of the world.” (Revelation 13:8)

Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, ‘Do not think to yourself that in the king’s palace you will escape any more than all the other Jews. For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?’

-Esther 4:13-14 ESV

When God works in extraordinary ways—we know! When God works in ordinary ways, we think he is not there—but He is!

Now there was a Jew in Susa the citadel whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, son of Shimei, son of Kish, a Benjaminite

-Esther 2:5 ESV

“Mordecai brightened the eyes of Israel through his prayers. He was a son to whose prayers God listened. He knocked at the gates of mercy and they were opened for him.”

“the son of": derived from Jair, Shimei, Kish

Jair: to enlighten: to seek

Shimei: to ask

Kish: to knock

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

-Matthew 7:7

So the two women went on until they came to Bethlehem. When they arrived in Bethlehem, the whole town was stirred because of them, and the women exclaimed, ‘Can this be Naomi?’ ‘Don’t call me Naomi,’ she told them. ‘Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.’ So Naomi returned from Moab accompanied by Ruth the Moabite, her daughter-in-law, arriving in Bethlehem as the barley harvest was beginning.

-Ruth 1:19-22

You must have both Faith and Trust TO BELIEVE AND EXPERIENCE God as your Father.

Yom Kippurim: Day of Atonements; Day of fasting for deliverance

Purim: Feast of Esther; Day of Feasting and celebration of deliverance

Yes, there are times of trials and testings but there is a peace that passes all understand—a faith and a trust.

To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God.

-Ecclesiastes 2:26A

“A bird made its nest on the beach but a wave came and swept it away. The bird was so angry that he decided to dry out the sea. So it flew to the sea, filled its beak with water, and flew back over the sand, dropping the water on the sand. Then it took some crumbs of sand on the beach and dropped it in the oceans. He continued to do this all day long. His friend asked, “What are you doing?” The bird answered, “I am getting rid of the ocean that destroyed my nest.” The bird answered, “You fool! You will never succeed. The only thing certain about what you are doing is that you will suffer a breakdown, not the sea.”

We are battling an enemy that has already been defeated.

We are serving a GOD WHO HAS ALREADY WON.
