Follow the Son

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

-Isaiah 9:6-7

Celebrities were once perfectly pleasant human beings. But now, their wrath is awful. They wanted fame so they worked, pushed, and shoved. Yet, the morning after each one of these became famous, they wanted to take an overdose. Because that giant thing that was going to make everything ok, make their lives bearable, give meaning and purpose to their lives, happened, and they were still them. The disillusion turned them howling and insufferable!

-Cynthia Heimel

Coping Mechanisms: Constantly changing cognitive and behavioral efforts to manage specific external and/or internal demands that are appraised as taxing.

Human beings cannot live in the fullest awareness of the meaning of death. If our death is personal extinction so that when we die there is no continuance, nothing that survives or goes on, and, the Sun’s death is the end of civilization, then, everything previous will be totally insignificant to the mass of years and years of dead time before and after, so that no one will be around to remember anything that was done.

-Ernest Becker

Modern man is drinking and drugging himself out of awareness, or, spending time shopping, which is the same thing. As modern man’s need for heroic dedication has provided less and less by a culture that disbelieves in any moral, spiritual or social heroism, that same society finds ways to contrive to help him forget.

-Ernest Becker, “The Denial of Death”

Death should be viewed of the achievement of life.

-Plato

To never come into existence is best of all and to die is better than living.

-Aristotle

First: The birth is announced to the shepherds.

Mere work alone is not liberating and does not remedy loneliness, meaninglessness and purposelessness.

Second: The news of the birth comes to the philosophers.

Third: The news of the Birth came to a religious man.

It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. Moved by the Spirit, he went into the temple courts. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: ‘Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.’

-Luke 2:25-32
