APOSTOLICITY: the book or document had to be written by an apostle of Jesus or by a close companion of an apostle of Jesus like Luke.

So when they had come together, they were asking Him, saying, ‘Lord is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?’ He said to them, ‘It is not for you to know the times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.’

-Acts 1:6-8

‘It is not for you to know the times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority, but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you and you shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.’

-Acts 1:7-8

1. The Holy Spirit will come upon the disciples

And suddenly a noise like a violent rushing wind came from heaven, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, distributing themselves, and a tongue rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with different tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.

-Acts 2:2-4

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message. All the Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed because the gift of the Holy Spirit had also been poured out on the Gentiles.

-Acts 10:44-45

The word translated “come” is an intensive word for a superior force overtaking or controlling one.

-T. Whitlaw

2. They will receive power

So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus. When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.

-Acts 13:4-5

And with great power, the apostles were giving testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and abundant grace was upon them all.

-Acts 4:33

3. They will be be my witnesses

Know that I am still here in Alexandria…I beg you to take good care of our baby son and as soon as I receive payment I shall send it up to you. If you are delivered of a child (before I come home), if it is a boy keep it, if a girl discard it.

The nation that was once exporting the Gospel to nations is now exporting and advancing another story; one of the demonic origins, prostitution, pornography and possession.

The spirit of Baal had caused America (and Europe) to believe that departing from God would bring freedom. The spirit of Ishtar had convinced it that if it abandoned its moral safeguards for instant gratification and sexual abandon, it would find fulfillment. And the spirit of Molech had promised to grant it the unhindered life if it would only allow him to take away the children.

You are missing out on experiencing God’s power in your life.

When was the last time you experienced God’s power at work in your life?

Every Christian has the Holy Spirit.

In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of the promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance….

-Ephesians 1:13-14a

Do not quench the Spirit, do not despise prophetic utterances, but examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good, abstain from every [b]form of evil.

-1 Thessalonians 5:19-22

Every Christian has supernatural power.

The task given to us is not a human one. It is a divine mission needing something more than human wisdom and strategy.

The truly startling thought is that by not submitting and totally trusting the Holy Spirit, I am not submitting to or trusting God. This is no small matter.

-Francis Chan

Every Christian is Jesus’ witness.

God was in the middle of it all. While He showed me that He can work through me in spite of me.
