Devotional Thought

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

-1 Corinthians 11:1

The ‘90s movement WWJD—What Would Jesus Do?—was more than a fashion trend. At its core, it was a call to spiritual formation. It challenged believers to go beyond admiration and step into imitation. To live like Jesus, not just believe in Him.

But as we reflect today, maybe the more pressing question is: WWYD — What Will You Do?

We’ve all admired Jesus: the miracle-worker, the comforter, the Savior. But imitating Him—being real, forgiving radically, serving quietly, trusting through pain, and going all in—pulls us out of our comfort zones. This is where spiritual formation begins. This is where the bracelet becomes a lifestyle.

The Apostle Paul reminded the early church that discipleship was about becoming like Christ in every way. The early believers understood this deeply—they didn’t just speak of Christ; they patterned their lives after His.

So this week, take a courageous step out of admiration and into action. Let WWJD become WWYD.

Discussion Questions

1. What was your experience (if any) with the WWJD movement? What did it mean to you then—and how do you view it now?

2. In what ways do you find it easier to admire Jesus than imitate Him? Which example from the sermon—being real, forgiving, serving, trusting, going all in—felt most convicting or inspiring?

3. Which "comfort zone" is God inviting you to step out of in this season? How have you seen comfort lead to complacency in your spiritual life?

3. Jesus would be real, not just religious. Where in your life do you find it easiest to perform or pretend? What would it look like to get real with God and others?

4. Is there someone you are struggling to forgive? What does it mean to “release the debt” in practical terms? How can your group support you in taking a step toward that?

5. Who do you know that serves quietly like Jesus? How can you follow their example this week, even if no one notices?

6. When have you had to say, “Not my will, but Yours”? Are you in a Gethsemane moment now? How can your group walk with you in trust?

7. A.W. Milne lived with no plan B. What does it look like to live "all in" for Jesus in your everyday context—school, work, relationships?

8. How can we move from simply wearing the bracelet (or the title “Christian”) to truly living like Jesus—as a group and as individuals?

Action Step Options

Choose one or more to commit to this week:

Pray Honestly: Spend 10 minutes this week being raw with God—no filters, no performance. Just your real self.

Forgive Intentionally: Reach out to someone you need to forgive (or begin praying daily for the grace to do so).

Serve Quietly: Do one act of unseen service—at church, home, or in your community—without telling anyone.

Imitate Boldly: Identify one area in your life to ask, “What would Jesus do?”—and then do it.

Go Public: If you’ve been considering baptism or making a faith decision public, take the next step. Reach out to a leader or your church.

Let’s not just talk about Jesus—let’s walk like Him. WWYD?
