WWJD
Today I’m calling us all out of our comfort zones…
- Because Comfort Zones Kill Calling
- Comfort Zones Create Complacent Christians
- Jesus didn’t die so we could play it safe… He died so that we might live dangerously for Him.
How? With just 1 Question:
WWJD: What Would Jesus Do?
The WWJD movement was never meant to be about fashion —it was meant to be about formation. Spiritual formation.
Maybe more important than “What would Jesus do?” is the question:
WWYD: What Will You Do?
Christianity isn’t about admiration—it’s about imitation.
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
-1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV
Jesus didn’t just come to die for you—He came to show you how to live.
THE GAP BETWEEN ADMIRATION & IMITATION (Spiritual Formation)
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to admire Jesus… but so hard to actually follow Him?
We can’t be transformed by the Jesus we only admire. Admiration is a start, but it’s not the goal.
The goal is imitation.
Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.
-1 Corinthians 11:1 ESV
Let’s look at five ways Jesus actually lived—and ask ourselves the real question:
WWYD — What Will You Do?
1 - JESUS WOULD BE REAL—NOT JUST RELIGIOUS
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.”
-Matthew 23:27-28 NIV
Jesus doesn’t heal what you pretend isn’t broken.
Jesus doesn’t want a cleaned-up version of you. He wants the real you.
WWJD? He’d get real.
WWYD? Will you get real?
2 – JESUS WOULD FORGIVE—EVEN WHEN IT HURTS
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing.”
-Luke 23:34A
Aphiēmi (greek): “to let go” or “to release a debt”
Forgiveness doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt. It means you’ve decided to stop carrying the weight of what happens to you.
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
-Matthew 6:14-15 ESV
…forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
-Mark 11:25B ESV
Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
-Luke 6:37B
Forgiveness is the mark of someone who walks like Jesus.
Who do you need to forgive?
WWJD? He’d forgive them… before they asked.
WWYD? Because when Jesus lives in you… forgiveness flows through you.
3 – JESUS WOULD SERVE—WHEN NO ONE’S WATCHING
“…he got up from the meal…wrapped a towel around his waist… and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”
-John 13:4-5 NIV
God does some of His greatest work in the most unseen moments.
So the question is:
WWJD? He’d serve without being seen.
WWYD? Will you serve without being celebrated?
4 – JESUS WOULD TRUST—WHEN IT DOESN’T MAKE SENSE
“...not My will but Yours be done.”
-Luke 22:42B
Lupeō (greek): grieved to the point of death.
Gethsemane means “oil press.”
It’s where olives were crushed to release oil.
And that night, Jesus was being crushed… so grace could flow.
Will you still trust God… when it doesn’t make sense?
I really would rather be in this wheelchair knowing Jesus… than on my feet without Him.
-Joni Eareckson Tada, The Gospel Coalition 2017
This isn’t the story we would’ve written… but we trust the Author.
-Levi and Jennie Lusko
WWJD? He trusted—through the crushing.
WWYD? Will you? Because sometimes the deepest faith isn’t loud. It’s whispered through tears: “Not my will… but Yours.”
5 - JESUS WOULD GO ALL IN—NO PLAN B
“If any of you wants to be my follower, you … take up your cross daily, and follow me. (Luke 9:23)
Jesus didn’t say, “Come admire Me.” He said, “Come die with Me.”
Christianity is not a comfort zone. It’s a cross-carrying calling.
THIS IS YOUR “TIMELESS” MOMENT
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
-Hebrews 13:8
So what would Jesus do?
- He’d be real.
- He’d forgive deeply.
- He’d serve quietly.
- He’d trust fully.
- He’d go all in.
Now the question is:
What will you do?
