5 Ways You Can Worship God Everyday

Often times I struggle with fully understanding the concept of worship. I hear about it all the time at church, when I read my Bible or watch a documentary of a world-renowned rock star. Sometimes it seems simple to grasp and other times, complex. In its simplicity, I think it is physically bowing down to someone or something. In its complexity, I am at a loss for words. So what does it really mean to worship God? The thought of being on my knees all day long praying is not appealing. As a matter of fact, I’d rather sit in the dentist chair with metal fixed to my jaw. Not very Christian-like, right? I know! So I decided to do some digging and find out what this word looks like on a practical level. According to my search, the definition of worship is, ‘the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.’ Okay, nothing new or mind-blowing there…it is what it is. BUT I want to know what it looks like between the hours I wake and when I crash late at nights. Well, in my seeking I’ve found five very practical ways to “worship” God.

  1. Pray (Ephesian 6:18). Every morning, before life kicks into full throttle, take some time to read the Bible and pray. The days when I devote my initial waking time to the Word are the days when my inner peace is the strongest. Even when chaos is happening, I am as cool as a cucumber.
  2. Be honest (John 4:24). In a world where social media filters reality to make lives look interesting and appealing, truth is a little bit hard to find. So I try to be honest with God and myself, and by default most times, honest with others. God already knows I am a mess so owning it and making the effort to do better is all He asked of me.
  3. Love oneself (Psalm 139 – the whole chapter) …mike dropped!
  4. Be kind to others – wee bit cliché (1 Corinthians 13:13). For many years I disliked working with Christians. I felt that many of them were pretentious and insincere so I’d rather worked with “the world”; at least their dysfunction was obvious. Since then I’ve grown and realize that people are people, and when we show kindness and love God is able to do what he does best – change lives.
  5. Forgive (Hebrews 10:18)! At the end of the day, let go of the disappointments that happened throughout the day. Evenings are usually the time when I am most reflective and judgmental. At this point, I can choose to hold on to the hurts or to let them go.

I’ve found that worshipping God is not acts of rituals. Rather, it is a way of life in relation to God, oneself and others. So when you are feeling blasé, just know that He is perfect in you!
